My name is Melanie and I’m from Germany. In June, I decided to become an English teacher at Oxford House in Prague, so I signed up for a Trinity Cert TESOL course. As I didn’t have accommodation for that time, I decided to try the Mensa SIGHT programme, filled in the application form and sent it to the SIGHT coordinator for the Czech Republic, Zuzana Poláková. I was quite nervous as I hadn’t used this service before and didn’t know what to expect. But Zuzana replied soon and forwarded my request to Mensa members located in Prague.
Shortly after, the wonderful Pavla Procházková offered me to stay at her place for the duration of the course. I was very happy to be offered a place, especially as I found Pavla to be a great host. She welcomed me in her home, gave me useful advice on how to get around town using public transport and showed me some great places in Prague (including some of the best Gelato places 😉). Unfortunately, I was very busy completing assignments for my course so we didn’t get to do more together. But as I’ll stay in Prague for a few more months, I’m sure there’ll be more opportunities to do some sightseeing. She also put me in touch with fellow Czech Mensa members and I attended a Mensa meeting where I got to know some friendly and interesting people. I want to thank Pavla for being a warm-hearted host and for making this adventure such an amazing experience for me!!!
